How can I run Magic Touch Classic or Magic Scape on a Mac with an Apple Silicon chip?

Modified on Sat, 22 Mar at 10:19 AM

Magic Touch Classic and Magic Scape are legacy extensions, created with the CEP technology Adobe has used for many years for their extensibility platform.

The more modern UXP Plugins like Magic Touch 2 or Magic Color don't need any particular procedure to run on Macs equipped with Apple Silicon chips of the M series, like the recent M4 (and its respective variations), but legacy extensions to be seen and used in Photoshop on these devices need for it to start in Rosetta Mode.

Please follow these steps:

1. Go to Applications and look for the Photoshop CC 20XX folder

(the number depends on the version you have installed)

2. Open the folder and find the Photoshop Application Icon inside it.

3. Right click (or Ctrl + left click) on the icon and select “Get Info” in the menu.

4. Inside the info window look for the checkbox “Open with Rosetta” and check it.

If you don’t see the “Open with Rosetta” option, please check you have opened the info box for the Application and not the one of the Folder, or it won’t be there... (as an example you can see the difference between the two info windows for PS 2022 in the image below)

 5. Restart Photoshop.

Once Photoshop restarts you should be able to find the Panels you installed inside the menu

Window > Extensions (legacy)

It should be enabled by default but if for some reason you see the extensions menu but it’s greyed out, don’t worry, you just have to go inside Photoshop’s preferences, in the Plugin tab, and check the option “Load Extension Panels”.
